Recreational use of an Italian Bocce Ball Court provides an excellent way to spend afternoons and evenings having backyard fun with family and friends.
The Grey Blended Rain Country blend is made up of our Sierra Silver Grey Decomposed Granite 1/4" Minus blended with premium quality marine composted crushed oyster shell flour and washed concrete sand. We use a higher percentage of oyster shells in this blend than in our Dry Climate Blends.
This produces a good draining but still results in the typical traditional Italian bocce ball court. This mixture is installed over a layer of standard 3/8" minus decomposed granite to a depth of 1-1/2 to 3 inches, which equals 1 ton of blended material per 100 to 150 square feet.
The role that oyster flour plays in bocce court surface mixtures is to keep the decomposed granite from becoming extremely hard and unworkable for grooming. The oyster flour keeps the decomposed granite from completely binding together.
Through the normal course of play; ruts, troughs, and material displacement takes place. Our decomposed granite oyster flour blend is in the traditional Italian bocce ball court surface formula. When groomed out it makes a smooth solid surface to play on.

Oyster Shell Flour
Oyster shell flour is applied over the top of the finished court surface at the rate of 1/4 to 1/2 pound per square foot resulting in a thin layer of finely crushed oyster shell flour for a very smooth playing surface. However, this should not be done during periods of seasonal rainfall since it will be quickly washed into the oyster shell and decomposed granite mixture.

In most cases, we charge by the ton and we have the receipts from the scale house at the quarry to show upon request. Materials sold by the yard tend to have very inaccurate amounts in the trucks. The amount loaded depends on the size of the loader bucket, how well the material was scooped up, and who was supervising the loading of the truck. Scale House totals don't lie, so why take a chance on losing money and time with how many square feet, scoops, skips, and or dumps were made in loading the truck? Just get it weighed out.

Product Samples
California Building Material Supply believes that for most consumers and end users of these landscaping or building material products the best location to view most of these products is at the actual site where they are going be used. This is particularly true for existing homes and commercial locations that are being renovated or re-landscaped. Samples of most materials can be delivered and evaluated by you on site for you to make the most informed choice possible. Materials are sold per the specification of the stone type, product brand and basic sizes.
Samples are shipped via United State Postal Service, Priority Mail. We can get about 16 pounds of material into a large flat rate box. Samples are sent with an invoice on Net 10 Day Terms. When ordering your samples use the Purchase Order function at checkout and enter SAMPLES. This will allow you to make a purchase without having to pay for the samples at that time.

Wet Climate Blend
The Bocce Ball Court Oyster flour Blend WC is ideal for regular rainfall climates such as most northern portions of California and the Pacific Northwest, the Upper Midwest, and other regions where regular to heavy rainfall requires a light blend that will not become hard and compacted. The Wet Climate blend is slightly more expensive since it contains a high percentage of crushed oyster shells to lessen compaction that would otherwise result from regular or heavy periods of rainfall. - Dry Climate Blend
The Bocce Ball Court Oystershell Blend DC is ideal for regular rainfall climates like most of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and West Texas. The Dry Climate blend is less expensive since a lower amount of crushed oyster shell is required to maintain desirable court conditions. - One Ton of Bocce Ball Court Spread Covers:

Bocce Court Silver Surface Dry Climate Mix is made up of Sierra Silver Decomposed Granite material with apx. 25% crushed naturally marine composted oyster flour . The shell is in the form of thin 3⁄8” wide thin flakes with approximately 20% fines or “oyster shell flour” and washed concrete sand for added drainage. Material is similar to the texture of fish scales, not shell pebbles. Bocce courts require regular grooming of the surface with a push broom or tennis court broom and a large landscape rake. The role that oyster shell plays in bocce court surface mixtures is to keep the decomposed granite from becoming extremely hard and unworkable for grooming. The oyster shell flakes keep the decomposed granite from completely binding together. Through the normal course of play; ruts, troughs, and material displacement takes place.
